Lake Erie Paddler will be adding much more fitness related activities to our programming this year.  We have been working on a number of fitness routines around the paddle board as the central element to develop more core fitness training.

We are finding more of our customers who have enjoyed recreational stand up paddling on Lake Erie and other Ohio waterways last season are taking more of an interest in paddle boarding as a core fitness program.  Because of that demand we have been busy this spring working on some exciting new core fitness routines.

Last season Lake Erie Paddler was first to offer regular paddle board SUP Yoga classes in northeast Ohio and on Lake Erie.  We will continue to expand our SUP Yoga classes in addition to adding more core fitness programming.

As a foundation to our fitness programming we will be offering more intermediate and advanced standup paddling lessons in addition to our current Beginner Paddle Board Lessons.  The intermediate and advanced paddle board lessons will revolve around paddle technique, cardio, and efficiency.  These classes, in addition to our existing beginner lessons and our SUP Yoga classes will provide the foundation for individuals seeking a more intense workout to transition to our fitness programming.

This morning we did a 3.2 mile sunrise paddle from our SUP Shop in Harborwalk down the Black River past the Bascule Bridge and the Lorain Lighthouse out to Lake Erie incorporating pushups, squats, and situp/crunches along the way.  We also ended the day at sunset with another small set of interval training and SUP Yoga on the Black River in Harborwalk.  This is a small subset of some of the fitness routines we will be adding to our class schedule this year.

We will add a number of the additional components to our fitness programming including some of the following:

• Paddle Technique
• Interval training
• Pivot Turns
• Water Exercises
• Land Exercises
• Speed Training
• Distance Training

These are just some of the components we will be adding to the mix this year.

Join Lake Erie Paddler in supporting the Loco Yaks and other local organizations in the first annual Black River cleanup.  The Black River is dear to both of our organizations and we are excited to part of such a stellar environmental and community effort.

We have paddled with all the founding members of Loco Yaks, Stephanee Moore, Rob Koscho, and Josh Notly on combination paddle board and kayak excursions down the Black River.  In October of 2012 we paddled with Rob and Stephanee 6.75 miles down the Black River from the French Creek Launch Pad out to Lake Erie to Lakeview Park Beach.

We enjoyed the natural beauty of the Black River watershed observing wildlife along the way including deer, turtles, herons, and bald eagles.

We share the appreciation of this Lorain County local resource and applaud the efforts of the Loco Yaks in their vision and organization of the Black River cleanup.

A business or individual can sponsor a one of a kind local artist designed fish for display in their home, shop, or place of business.

We intend to locate our fish in front of our shop and our various SUP launch points on Lake Erie.  Paul Biber of the Follow the Fish Adventure Trail was kind enough to bring down a fish so we can see how one might look in front of our shop.  Indeed, we liked it.  Stay tuned for the fish that ends up on California Avenue and follow our fish trails as we navigate the beaches and SUP launches on Lake Erie this season.

When contacted by Rachel we suggested she come out to Lakeview Park Beach for a Lesson with us so she can experience the joy of Standup Paddling (SUP) first hand as well as the rich experience we deliver to our clients.

Rachel was a good sport and spend the day at the beach with us learning SUP and meeting and interviewing some of our clients and team members to get their perspectives on the benefits of Standup Paddling.

We were blessed with beautiful sunny skies that do though we did have a bit of a strong current making Rachel’s lesson a bit challenging for her.

She did a wonderful job capturing the essence the SUP experience that Lake Erie Paddler is delivering in partnership with the Lorain County Metroparks on Lake Erie at Lakeview Park Beach in Lorain, Ohio.

Lake Erie Paddler Surftech SUP Fleet

Our primary Standup Paddling (SUP) Lesson and Rental location is at Lakeview Park Beach in Lorain, Ohio but when the winds are strong from the West or North-West some choppy waves and current can make paddling conditions difficult for beginners.

The Jackalope Cove Beach located at Lakeside Landing on Lorain’s east side is protected by a peninsula to the north-west that offers protection from the wind and offers more calmer conditions.

When the weather kicks up on Lake Erie as it did this weekend Lake Erie Paddler can easily deploy our fleet of Surftech Standup Paddle Boards to the cove beach and still deliver a rich paddling experience to our clients.

Standup Paddling on Lorain’s waterways evokes postcard imagery.  Our inaugural promotional flyer pays homage to the vintage postcard designs that reflect Lorain’s picturesque Lakefront.

Lorain is a Gateway to Lake Erie because of its unique location on Ohio’s North Shore and accessible waterfront. Lake Erie Paddler was involved in a hotbed of activity this weekend featuring multiple events that revolved around Lorain’s waterways.

On Saturday, Lake Erie Paddler was a sponsor and participant in the 2nd Annual Black River Kayak-A-Thon.  The event was a collaboration organized and presented by the City of Lorain, The Lorain Port Authority, and the Lorain County Metroparks.

Canoers, Kayakers, and Standup Paddlers departed from the Lorain County Metroparks French Creek launch pad and paddled four (4) miles down the Black River highlighting the restoration efforts, culminating at the Lorain International Festival Site.

We are committed to serving the community by sharing the joys and benefits of standup paddling and encouraging recreation on Lorain’s lakefront waterways.
